MLS Most Valueable Pale contestant: Eddie Gaven

The pale ale is possibly the most ubiquitous of craft beer.  It's the safest to bring to a party and it's typically one that downing a six-pack is not likely to knock you out for the evening.  We enjoy them too but for some reason have spent almost zero time trying to produce a good one.

To remedy this, we decided to dedicate the summer to the production of three different pale ales.  To make it less fun we decided to dedicate them to the true boys of summer, Major League Soccer semi-stars.

Our first one is dedicated to Eddie Gaven and was brewed on June 21st.

13 lbs. 2 row domestic pale malt
0.5 lbs. crystal malt 60L
0.5 lbs. Special B malt
0.5 lbs. unrefined rock sugar added to the boil

Mash temp:  155 for one hour.

2.0 oz. Horizon 11% AA at 60 min
1.0 oz. Warrior 16% AA at 30 min
0.5 oz. Warrior 16% AA at 15 min
0.5 oz.  Warrior 16% AA at 5 min
1.0 oz. Chinook 14% dry-hopped in the secondary

Yeast:  CA ale yeast.

OG:  1.061
FG:  1.02 (a little high)

Stay tuned for the recipes for the other two as well as the MVP tasting session notes.
